In this post: 10 Quick decluttering ideas for your bedroom that take 10 minutes or less.

Are you looking to add more serenity to your sleeping area? Decluttering your bedroom can instantly create a more peaceful atmosphere! We all know that a cluttered space can make it hard to relax, but we don’t always make the bedroom a priority. Here are 10 quick decluttering ideas for the bedroom when you have a few minutes to spare.

Keeping the Bedroom Clutter-Free

Honestly, my bedroom is a room that I have to work really hard at keeping clutter-free. I know most guests never see my bedroom, so it’s where I tend to pile things that I want out of my main living area. I’m sure I’m not alone in this.

Having a clutter-free bedroom is important for creating a calm environment for you to rest. Your bedroom is the first room YOU see in the morning and the last room YOU see before sleeping, so shouldn’t it be a cozy and welcoming space you can relax in?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed with piles and stacks of stuff in your bedroom, there is hope. Taking small consistent steps can help declutter your bedroom. Set a timer for 10 minutes to declutter each day and see how much you can get done. The tasks on this list are meant to be able to be done quickly when you have a few minutes to spare.

Decluttering guilt is common. If you struggle with feeling guilty when you get rid of clutter, make sure to read this post for ways to overcome it.

10 Things to Declutter in the Bedroom in Less Thank 10 Minutes Each

1. Nightstand Surface

Clear off your bedside table to create a tidy surface. The nightstand can be a magnet for clutter. You want to keep the things you use within arm’s reach of the bed, but sometimes there is more there than you really need. Do you have books piled that you are done reading, a pile of papers, or an old glass of water? Put things away that you don’t need regularly.

2. Dresser Surface

The dresser can also be a clutter trap with things that need to find a new home. Take 10 minutes to put things away. Look for old receipts that can go in the trash, socks that are missing mates, etc.

Don’t believe me that a messy dresser can be decluttered in 10 minutes? My own dresser got a little out of control after the holidays. I was putting off cleaning it because I thought it would take too long. When I decided to conquer the dresser clutter I timed myself, and was able to clear this mess in 9 minutes! That included putting things away where they belong AND dusting it off when I was done.

You might be surprised by how much you can get done in 10 minutes!

3. Floordrobe

Ah, the floordrobe. It’s a thing. These are the piles of clothes on your floor. They tend to be clothing items that you wore once, so they aren’t dirty enough to wash yet, but not clean enough to put next to your clean clothes.

Do you have a floordrobe? Consider creating a system for clothes like these. Maybe hooks on the back of the closet door or a valet stand to drape your jeans over. Anything to keep clothes off the floor.

If you have dirty clothes on the floor, put them in the hamper.

If you are living out of a laundry basket, put those clothes away in your closet or dresser.

4. Jewelry

Go through your jewelry, and get rid of anything you don’t like or don’t wear anymore.

5. Socks and Underwear

Take a quick assessment of your sock and underwear drawer(s). Toss any socks that don’t have matches or have holes. Also, get rid of any that you don’t like or don’t wear.

6. T-Shirts

Go through your t-shirt drawer and remove any that are worn out, you don’t like, or you don’t wear anymore.

If you are feeling ambitious, you can go through the rest of your closet in this way. I am not including the closet in this bedroom decluttering list though, because that often turns into a bigger project than 10 minutes.

7. Books and Magazines

If you have a collection of books and/or magazines in your bedroom, put away the ones you want to keep, but aren’t currently reading. Donate any that you will never read or won’t read again.

Consider using a Kindle for reading future books and magazines. You can take it anywhere, read in the dark, and it is less clutter than a pile of books or magazines.

8. Bedding

Donate any bedding, including sheets, comforters, blankets, and throw pillows, that you don’t use or love. Even if it is worn out, animal shelters love old bedding as a donation.

9. Decor / Knick-Knacks

Take a look around for any decor or knick-knacks that are out of date or you don’t love. If they are just collecting dust, it is probably time for them to find a new home.

10. Cables or Cords

Sometimes bedrooms become the landing spot for spare charging cords or cables. Get rid of any that are not being used. If you are holding onto old charging cords “just in case” you need them someday, remember that most electronics come with the cables they need, and cheap replacements can easily be found on Amazon if you end up needing one.

Decluttering the Bedroom

Decluttering the bedroom can seem daunting, but taking small consistent steps can have big rewards. Imagine your dream bedroom as a relaxing sanctuary without all of the clutter that causes anxiety. I know you can do it!
